DEAR FRIENDS
First, I would like to thank all of the hundreds of emails, texts, and facebook messages I received about my email on Monday (12/29/08) with overwhelming words of love and support. I was amazed at the level of love and support I truly have from so many industry professionals that I respect and admire that reached out to tell me they had my back.
THANK YOU.

The point of Monday's email ("THE
10 MOST HORRIBLE THINGS PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT MY NEW YEAR'S EVE
PARTY") was not to bring up negativity or upset people who
support me and want to defend me, it was to open everyone's mind to a
new possibility of a nightlife community in San Francisco where
nightclub owners, party promoters, hosts, and party people love,
respect, and support "EVERYONE" rather hate, disrespect, and try to
hurt others. San Francisco was once called "The
City Of Love". Can we bring that back?
The point of Monday's email was only to say "Let's
End The Hate". It's a small town. Everyone
knows everyone. Everyone knows everyone's business.
My goal, which should be all of our goals, is to make San Francisco
the most desirable place in the world to live and to party. I
can't do it alone. This isn't "THE DONOVAN
SHOW". This is "THE SAN FRANCISCO
SHOW". If I'm going to ever achieve making San Francisco
a world-respected party city where jet-setters from around the world
and Hollywood celebrities want to come party with us every weekend,
then I need everyone's support. This is a collective effort.
We all need to work together as brothers and sisters towards a common goal. Let's not hold each other down and keep this great city from shining and reaching its full potential. Collectively, we could be making this city A LOT MORE MONEY. Hotels, Restaurants, Clubs, Bars, Salons, Stores, Taxis, etc. Millions and millions of dollars more for this great city. We have that capability if we work together.
Mayor Gavin Newsom, are you listening? :)
We have A LOT of work to do. We don't have
time or energy to be wasting talking negatively about one another.
Let's work together, not against one another. So, again, the
only point of my email yesterday was to say
"I LOVE & SUPPORT SAN FRANCISCO UNCONDITIONALLY"
I respect and support Vintage 415, City Visions, Delicious Karma, Don Davis, 38 North, Justin Rojas, CrawlSF, Nate Mezmer, Mike Fitzgerald, Martel & Nabiel, Aykut Presents, Frenchy le Freak, Christian Presents, French Tuesdays, Ruby Skye, Spundae, Mixed Elements, Sebastien Presents, Tony Kutulas, 2nd Sunday, Remedy, Enrique of SurrealSF, Chris Rojas, Pleasurezone, and all of you other promoters I accidentally overlooked and forgot to mention, please forgive me, I support you too. I support every nightclub in this city that is providing good entertainment to the Bay Area. I support every DJ that is pouring his heart and soul out to his audience any night of the week. And I also support that new, hungry "bedroom" DJ that dreams of having just "one chance" at proving himself to a promoter to earn an opening slot at a future party. I support you all unconditionally, whether you support me or not. Because I want San Francisco collectively to succeed and that can only happen if you are all successful. So you have my support, whether you need it or not, or whether you want it or not. :)
On "New Year's Eve"day, I wish all of my industry brothers out there working their heart out, crossing all their 't's and dotting all their 'i's, to make sure their New Year's Eve party tonight is "top-notch" for their customers, I wish you all only the best of luck and only the best of success.
SAN FRANCISCO. I HAVE YOUR BACK!

NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY
DONOVAN'S TOP TEN "OTHER" AMAZING NEW YEAR'S
EVE PARTIES IN SAN FRANCISCO
FOR YOU TO CONSIDER:
PROPAGANDA #2
THE CROWD AT CITY HALL IS GOING TO BE WHACK!
IT'S GOING TO BE ALL "BRIDGE & TUNNEL" AND "AMATEUR NIGHT". WE HAVE
THE LOCALS & THE "IN THE KNOW" CROWD AT OUR PARTY!
My Correction to the
Public:
Our New Year's Eve at City Hall party has spent $0 on
public/mass-market advertising of our event. All marketing for New
Year's Eve at City Hall has been extremely targeted through only
DONOVAN's exclusive mailing list of Bay Area fashion-foward, sexy,
sophisticated hipsters, NATE MEZMER & MIKE FITZGERALD's very targeted
upscale mash-up/ hip hop clientele, SOMA MAGAZINE'S very targeted
mailing list of highly eclectic, cultrually-refined, fashion-savvy
readers, as well as THE SPINSTERS OF SAN FRANCISCO's very targeted
list of very affulent, high-society philanthropic socialites. Our
only other source of marketing/promotion has been through word of
mouth "one on one" communication through Facebook to our personal
network of friends. Unlike all of our major New Year's Eve
competitors, we have zero advertising from radiio stations such as
92.7FM or newspapers such as SF Weekly, Guardian, Chronicle, or online
nightlife resources such as SFStation, Nitevibe, Eventvibe, etc. New
Year's Eve at City Hall is by far, the most "have to be in the know"
New Year's Eve party of San Francisco and is more "underground"
than even the most "underground" New Year's Eve party being publicly
advertised and promoted on Nitevibe.com. Everyone attending our
New Year's Eve at City Hall event is a friend or friend of a friend of
one of the main organizers. Although this party will be 3,000 people
in size, it will be the largest local party of friends, family, and
familiar faces of any New Year's Eve party in San Francisco. So
please don't believe the hype.
New Year's Eve at City Hall also features for the first-time in San Francisco history, a live fashion show showcasing a "sneak peak" of the Spring 2009 Collections of world-famous designers PRADA and DOLCE & GABBANA. What type of crowd do you think a "Milan & Paris" inspired fashion show of the most famous, most expensive, most elegant, and most cutting-edge couture fashion designs in the world is going to attract? As you can easily deduce, due to our high profile fashion show, New Year's Eve at City Hall is attracting the most fashion elite of not only the Bay Area, but jet-setters from all over the world flying in to attend our party to see this unprecedented fashion show at the very last New Year's Eve event ever at San Francisco City Hall.
Also, due to New Year's Eve at City Hall being 'THE MOST EXPENSIVE TICKET IN TOWN", our high cost ticket price will only attract a very cultured, very affluent crowd that can afford a $150+ ticket price. This ticket price weeds out the "boys" from the "true gentlemen" and weeds out the "girls" from the "ladies". This will be a class act event with a class act crowd. So if you are willing to spend a little more money for a more polished, more refined crowd than anywhere else in town, and if you are looking for that "marriage-material" romantic partner to take home to mom and not just another "one night stand", than New Year's Eve at City Hall is the place for you.
PROPAGANDA #3
THE CITY HALL PARTY IS WAY OVER PRICED! OUR
PARTY IS WAY MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!
Our Correction to the Public:
If you compare per square footage of
entertainment/decor/ambience/crowd quality/venue quality/and class &
sophistication level, nothing takes even a close 2nd to the $/sq.
foot value you are receiving at our New Year's Eve party. We have
spent over $160,000 on the production of our New Year's Eve event at
City Hall party to deliver the most breathtaking, most memorable New
Year's Eve experience of your life. We have spared no expense to
deliver the best New Year's Eve production and experience in San
Francisco. Comparing our event to other New Year's Eve parties in
the city is like comparing apples to oranges. They cannot be
compared. It would actually be unfair to our competitors for you to
compare our New Year's Eve party to theirs. Don't even try. Either
you are looking for the highest quality production, the most
gorgeous, most high profile crowd, and best experience of your life
for New Year's or you are looking for "The Best Deal". New Year's
Eve at City Hall is proudly "THE MOST EXPENSIVE TICKET IN TOWN" and
for good reason. We are delivering the most elaborate, most
expensive New Year's Eve production and experience in San
Francisco. You are getting way more bang for your buck with every
dollar you spend at City Hall than any other New Year's Party in
town.
New Year's Eve at City Hall is also one of a very few New Year's Eve parties in San Francisco that is "charity fundraising" event where a portion of every dollar raised will go to San Francisco based charity CITY OF DREAMS. City of Dreams is a charity organization who's mission is to help youth living in San Francisco's low-income housing communities build brighter futures. Their bold vision is to end the generational poverty cycle in our city's most challenged neighborhoods. For more information on CITY OF DREAMS, please visit their website at www.cityofdreams.org. Having a hard time justifying paying that extra $25 our party costs over all other major parties? A large porition of this extra money you are contemplating is worth paying or not for New Year's Eve at City Hall actually goes 100% towards you educating and empowering San Francisco's underprivileged youths and providing them with a "chance" at a brighter future. The people who already bought tickets and are attending our New Year's Eve at City Hall event are philanthropic people committed to "helping" and making "positive changes" for San Francisco and The Bay Area and are willing to pay a few exta dollars to show their love and support to our beautiful city. Are you? These philanthropic people who bought tickets to our event are supporting a New Year's Eve event committed to making a positive contribution to San Francisco, not just a New Year's Eve event throwing a kick-ass party. Our event is committed to making positive social change. If this matters to you, than New Year's Eve at City Hall is the place for you.
PROPAGANDA #4
CITY HALL IS NOT OPEN BAR! OUR NEW YEAR'S EVE
PARTY IS!
Our Correction to the
Public:
We advocate a "RESPONSIBLE DRINKING" environment over "OPEN BAR"
format to protect you and your guests' safety as well as to ensure a
classy, sophisticated New Years Eve experience for you and your
friends. When you purchase a VIP Upgrade Ticket, you will receive four
(4) COMPLIMENTARY top-shelf drinks at the bar. Most people do not want
or need to drink more than 4 cocktails in an entire evening. If
someone does wish to drink more, they certainly are entitled to pay
for more drinks at the bar, we simply don't advocate that. FOR YOU &
YOUR FRIENDS' SAFETY, PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY.
PROPAGANDA #5
CITY HALL IS WAY TOO ENORMEOUS! DON'T YOU &
YOUR FRIENDS WANT SOMETHING SMALLER & MORE INTIMATE FOR NEW YEAR'S
LIKE MY PARTY?
Our Correction to the
Public:
Almost every competing New Year's Eve
event in the city is at least 600+ in size. Our New Year's Eve Event
at City Hall offers 4 different "intimate" parties in one, each
roughly 600 people in size. If you and your friends want an intimate
evening with just Chris Clouse, there is a 600 person room & party
made just for you. If you and your friends want to have an intimate
evening of upscale hip hop and mash up and love Nate Mezmer & Mike
Fitzgerald parties, there's a 600 person room & party made just for
you. If you and your friends want to hear house music in a
sophisticated environment with a gorgeous high-fashion crowd with
Donovan, there's a 600 person room & party made just for you. If you
and your friends want the most "exclusive", most "high-end", most
luxurious New Year's Eve experience of your life, where you and your
friends are catered to, pampered and treated like royalty, there's a
600 person VIP Mezzanine area & party made just for you. So whatever
you are looking for, New Year's Eve at City Hall has it. Whether you
and your friends simply want an intimate 600 person party or a 2400
person extravaganza, New Year's Eve at City Hall offers you and your
friends the best of both worlds.
PROPAGANDA #6
YOU ARE GOING TO WAIT AN HOUR OR MORE FOR A
DRINK AT CITY HALL! YOU ARE GOING TO GET DRINKS FASTER AT OUR PARTY!
Our Correction to the
Public:
Nobody in this business takes more pride in delivering the best
customer service experience for my clients than me. After either
producing or co-producing 7 large scale New Year's events over the
past 7 years: Bentley Reserve (See
Pics), The Embarcadero Center (See
Pics), The Mark Hopkins Hotel (See
Pics), IMG (See
Pics), Clift Hotel (See
Pics), etc. There are very few event organizers in San Francisco
who can list a more successful resume of "homerun" New Year's Eve
parties with a famous reputation for high quality productions and
service like mine. Believe me, I made my mistakes in my early years
of producing New Year's Eve events. I had the great misfortune and
heartache of fielding upset emails and phone calls from customers who
said I "ruined" their and their wives and friends' New Year's
Eve because I didn't do this or didn't do that at my event. Though
these many years of trial by fire, no one is more qualified and
experienced at providing the hightest quality of customer service. I
am extremely sensitive to the fact that people are paying a lot of
money to have the time of their lives at our New Year's Eve party at
City Hall. The last thing I want is for any of you to spend a lot of
your special night waiting in line to get a drink.
In order to ensure you and your friends are partying and not waiting in lines, we have "overhired" and "overstaffed" with more bartenders than industry standard to provide you with the most number of bars and bartenders possible throughout City Hall. We have also created VIP Bar Areas for our VIP Upgrade Ticketholders to give them the convenience of even quicker service, as well as to alleviate demand and long lines on our general public area bars. Over the past month, I have also spent close to two weeks out in Las Vegas doing bottle service at all of the top nightclubs to study their bottle service methodoloy and procedures to deliver "Vegas level and above" quality bottle service to our guests. My motto is "SERVICE IS KING" and on this special night, I plan to deliver for my customers.
So you and your friends can choose to attend another New Year's Eve event with an event organizer with much less New Year's Eve production experience or with unproven track record. Or you can place "The Most Special Night of the Year" in the hands of the most famous, most seasoned expert for producing the highest quality productions and highest quality customer service in all of San Francisco for the past 7 years.
PROPAGANDA #7
IF YOU GO TO CITY HALL, YOU ARE GOING TO BE
WAITING FOR HOURS OUTSIDE & SPENDING YOUR MIDNIGHT AT NEW YEAR'S
OUTSIDE IN THE FREEZING COLD WAITING TO GET INSIDE.
Our Correction to the
Public:
Due to the large number of anticipated guests attending our New Year's
Eve at City Hall, I have "hired" as consultants past event producers
of full-capacity New Year's Eve and Halloween parties at City Hall to
teach me all the things they have learned from all of their past
mistakes in producing large scale events at City Hall. Again, I am
very sensitive to ensuring my customers have the most pleasant, stress
free experience on the "The Most Special Night of the Year" for them,
their friends and loved ones. The last thing I want is you and your
friends waiting even an extra minute outside in the cold and not
enjoying this extremely expensive production I have invested over
$160,000 to ensure you and your friends have the night of your life.
My hard earned money will have gone wasted then. In order to make
your entrance into City Hall as quick, painless, and stress-free as
possible, we have created the most effective "entry system" ever
produced for a City Hall event of this size.
TWO MAJOR ENTRANCES:
VIP/BOTTLE SERVICE WILL CALL ON POLK ST.
SIDE;
GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETHOLDER WILL CALL ON VAN NESS ST. SIDE
To alleviate your wait time, we have quadruple-staffed our "Ticket Will Call" and admission checkpoints, providing for the very first time in City Hall event history, "Ticket Will Call" and ticketholder entrance on the main entrance side on Polk St. for our BOTTLE SERVICE ticketholders and VIP UPGRADE TICKETHOLDERS while providing 'Ticket Will Call" and ticketholder entrance on Van Ness for our GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETHOLDERS who do not have VIP UPGRADE TICKETS or bought a VIP TABLE. If you bought a General Admission Ticket and have friends who bought a table or VIP Upgrade Tickets and you wish to enter on the Polk St. side with them, you have two options: (1) Buy a VIP Upgrade Ticket Now (Purchase Here) or pick up your NYE General Admission ticket ar our EARLY WILL CALL outlined below. Bottle Service Ticketholders: To ensure you and your General Admission Ticketholder guests are all allowed to enter with you on the Polk St. VIP WILL Call side with you, please have all of your guests pick up their General Admission Tickets at our EARLY WILL outlined below:

IT'S GOING TO BE IMPOSSIBLE TO PARK OR
GET A CAB FROM CITY HALL! YOU WON'T FIND PARKING AND YOU WILL BE
STRANDED AFTER THE PARTY! YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GET A CAB MUCH EASIER
FROM OUR PARTY.
Our Correction to the
Public:
City Hall boasts one of the largest public parking lots underneath the
park plaza adjacent to City Hall with parking lot entrance located on
McCallister St. In order to ensure parking in this lot, we still do
advise you arrive early.
For those looking for the ultimate VIP experience, we will also be offering "Valet Service" on the Polk St. side entrance of City Hall.
New Year's Eve in San Francisco is notoriously known as the worst night of the year to hail a cab. As for securing a taxi at the end of the night, there is no better, more central "taxi-heavy" region than the City Hall area where your odds of catching a cab are much higher. There are no other major restaurants, bars, hotels, or other "major" New Year's Eve parties in close proximity to City Hall where hundreds of other city patrons will be spilling out into the streets, chasing and competing for empty cabs against you. Many of our New Year's Eve party competitors are in heavy restaurant, bar, hotel, and tourist areas where getting a cab will be next to impossible. So your chances of catching a cab at City Hall at the end of the night is much higher than the majority of New Year's Eve party competitors. Whichever New Year's Eve party you are seriously evaluating attending, please take into deep consideration their location as to the "reality" of what you are facing if you are depending on a cab ride at the end of the night.
PROPAGANDA #9
YOU HAVE TO WEAR A TUXEDO TO GO TO
THE CITY HALL NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY. WE DON'T IMPOSE A STRICT DRESS
CODE AT OUR PARTY.
Our Correction to the
Public:
Folks. This is City Hall. This is the home of the office of our
great Mayor Gavin Newsom. If you guys don't want to show your
respects to our great city by dressing the part, than New Year's Eve
at City Hall might not be the right party for you. However, this is a
"Black Tie Optional" event, not "Black Tie Required". So you
don't have to wear a tux if you don't want to or can't afford to rent
one, but we do request that you wear black suit & tie of some sort.
Ladies: We know all of you are looking for a "great excuse" to go
shopping and find the most "fabulous", most "elegant" dress of your
life to dawn at the classiest, most elegant New Year's Eve party in
San Francisco. We also know that our ladies are looking to meet a
nice gentlemen that wants to sport a nice, fashionable suit and tie to
show how classy and refined they truly are. We're not worried about
our lady patrons. We know you are all going to look fabulous.
Gentlemen: Let's "Step It Up" for San Francisco and let's "Step It Up"
for our lady guests that have been shopping and planning their New
Year's Eve outfits for months now! And for all of you boyfriends and
husbands out there, nothing turns on your woman more, than seeing her
man dressed to the 9's in a sharp suit. So make her night fellas,
suit up.
PROPAGANDA #10
IN THIS HORRIBLE ECONOMY, YOU SHOULD NOT
BE SPENDING YOUR MONEY ON SUCH A FRIVOLOUSLY EXPENSIVE EVENT AS NEW
YEAR'S EVE AT CITY HALL!
Our Correction to the
Public:
Against popular belief and what much of the mass media propagates to
the public, in my opinion, in this economic downturn, the worst thing
our country can be doing right now is hording our money. Businesses
in San Francisco, from major corporations to the smallest of the
small "Ma & Pa" shops are counting on your business this New Year's.
New Year's Eve Day is one of the most lucrative days of the year for
San Francisco. Every type of business from hotels, to restaurants, to
cafes, to hair salons, to nail shops, to flower shops, to gift and
candy stores, to clothing boutiques, to taxi cabs, trolley cars, and
muni buses are counting on your business to make 2008 a profitable
year. Due to the economic downtown, business has slowed in San
Francisco and many small business owners are facing bankruptcy if
their prayers aren't answered. People hording their money out of
fear right now of what the future holds and not supporting their
fellow man’s businesses anymore is creating a vicious cycle of more
economic downturn to come for our country. The answer to our
country’s economic problem is a very simple answer: People need to
spend more money right now than ever because “Spending is Giving".
Just like the government bill that dumped $800 billion to give life
back to the real estate market, we as citizens need to take it
upon ourselves to support our fellow neighbors and small business
owners by continuing to support their businesses, and by doing so
money will continue to healthily flow through the marketplace and save
people's jobs and save people's businesses. San Francisco was
originally based on its individuality and supporting the local "Ma &
Pa" shop over the mass-market franchise store. So I ask you to take a
different perspective on New Year's Eve this year. Rather than view
your choice to stay home this New Year's Eve to save money and be
"smart with your money", I invite you to be a "philanthropist" for an
evening and treat yourself and that special significant other to an
amazing evening in San Francisco that you both will never forget. And
by doing so, by staying at a nice hotel, by having a nice dinner
somewhere special, by buying your lady a beautiful evening gown or
piece of jewelry to wear that evening, and by taking a limousine or
taxi to your New Year's Eve party of choice, you now have "given" to
dozens of San Francisco local businesses and workers, you have helped
save their businesses and helped save people's jobs, you have put food
on people's tables and helped give hope and new possibilities to
underprivileged children from rough city streets like Hunter's Point
in San Francisco where buying a ticket to our New Year's Eve at City
Hall, our charity benefactor "City of Dreams" receives your money to
help fund their education programs to show and teach underprivileged
children a better, much more empowered life. So do you want to
"save" this New Year's Eve or do you want to "give"? The righteous
choice is yours.
At the end of the day, I want to empower you with the best information
possible for you to choose the "right" New Year's Eve Party for you
and your friends. If New Year's Eve at City Hall is not the right fit
for what you and your friends are looking for, I want you to go to the
"right party" so you and your friends have the best New Year's Eve
experience in San Francisco possible. What is most important to me,
is that you support San Francisco. Don't stay at home to save money,
support keeping San Francisco nightlife thriving by attending one of
these "other" amazing parties organized by some of my closest and
dearest friends in the industry as well as some of my biggest
competitors. At the end of the day, I want everyone to be
successful. Here are my top ten choices of "other" New Year's Eve

For those of you who took the time to really read my message, THANK YOU. I hope it was of value and helps direct you and a lot of people to the best New Year's Eve outcome you could have ever hoped for. Hopefully, now when you hear people talking negatively about this New Year's Eve party or that, you will listen with a grain of salt and question where this information originated from and what the intentions of this person who is sharing this information with you is. Have a wonderful New Year's Eve wherever you and your friends choose to go. I wish you, your friends, and all of my industry peers and competitors a very happy and successful New Year!
